What still holds in 2026
Most of the web list still describes the job: design, redesign, interface work, a content management system the client can edit, and search engine optimization, which has changed its methods many times and its goal not at all. The print list could be printed again unchanged. Small businesses still need logos, cards and flyers, and the studios that do both still have an edge in keeping a brand consistent.
The hosting list is the part that aged. Server setup, certificates, email and domain renewals were real work for a small studio in 2006. Most of it is now handled by the platforms themselves, and the studio's role has moved from running servers to choosing services.
The item that isn't there
“E-Commerce Sites” and “Online Integrated Storefronts” are the closest the list comes to what most small business sites now spend their time doing: taking bookings, orders and payments. That part has become its own decision, covered in what to put behind a small business site.
